Where to place your Sound SMART PACS
The Sound SMART PACS™ is designed to fit easily into your network storage, server closet, or near your existing practice management server. It requires only one network outlet and one standard power outlet (11ov).
The SmartPACS viewer can be viewed on any workstation with an HTML5 web browser. If you do not have a compatible browser, please download either Google Chrome or Firefox.
Orthoplan
SmartPACS Orthoplan is a Cloud Based Orthopedic Surgery Planning Software that provides ultimate flexibility allow you to plan surgeries on any device (PC, Mac, tablet, etc.), anywhere, at any time.
SmartPACS Orthoplan offers the largest repository of orthopedic surgery templates with new templates available via automatic updates
The software is accessed by logging into your Antech Imaging Services account.

Calibrating SmartPACS Orthoplan
In order to get the most out of your software, it is important to ensure your image is correctly calibrated. Every SmartPACS Orthoplan includes an Akucal Scaling Calibration Tool (pictured left).
The 25cm ball should be placed in the center of the anatomy that you wish to calibrate. For example, if you are doing a TPLO, the ball should off the table and placed at the height of the center of the patella.
To use your calibration tool,
- Place the tool on the table and roughly position the 25cm ball (1) using the flexible arm (2)
- Engage the suction cup lever (6) to secure the tool in place
- Reposition the ball using the flexible arm as needed
- Take your X-ray
- Disengage the suction cup lever (6) to remove the tool from the table

Sending Images to SmartPACS from a Third-Party Software
Sound SmartPACS allows for various softwares to DICOM send to it. Below are a few tutorials on how to set up and send for some of the more common systems.
If your existing DR system does not save in DICOM format, please contact your existing DR companies tech support and see if they are able to set up a DICOM send destination. Sound will provide you with the SmartPACS DICOM info. You will need to provide this to your existing DR company. Once they have entered this in, please ensure they walked you through how to send to the SmartPACS server.
Third Party Software Instructions
MCR Vet / OmniView
Have MCR/OmniView Tech support access your settings to add the Sound SmarPACS. In the Settings section, select the PACS button
Click the New button to add your SmartPACS AE Title, IP Address, and Port number. If you do not have this information available, please contact Sound Customer Support at 800-819-5538
Once you have created your SmartPACS PACS Server, highlight it and press the Select button. This will be confirmed with Selected field showing a “Yes.”
Click Apply to exit.
From your Review Screen, select the Study you want to send. You can select multiple studies by highlighting the first study, scrolling to the bottom, and holding Shift + Left Mouse Clicking on the last study.
Click the Send Button on the bottom of your screen to send the selected study or studies to your SmartPACS.

QXView

Watch a quick tutorial on how to transfer images from MAXvue / QXvue to your Sound DICOM Server
QXVue does not save images in DICOM format. However, it is possible to transfer images from your QXVue to your SmatPACS system. Please follow the instructions below to copy a set of date ranges from your QXVue to your SmartPACS system
If the system asks you to login, use the user and password “vieworks”


Select the DICOM Transfer option from the menu screen.
Make sure you have selected the SmartPACS option from the Storage SCP list. This is the PACS server that your images will be sent to.

You can click the Manage Queue button to see how many studies still need to transfer.
MAXXvue
MAXXvue does not save images in DICOM format. However, it is possible to transfer images from your MAXXvue PC to your SmartPACS system. Please follow the instructions below to add a new DICOM device and transfer studies to it.
If the system asks you to login, use the user and password “vieworks”
Adding a DICOM Device in MAXXvue:
- Open the Maxvue sofwtare. The password may be “drvet” or “Drvet”
- Click “DICOM Transfer”
- Under the “Current Transfer Information” tab, click “Configure” at the bottom of the window
- Click “Insert Storage-SCP Item” and add the device AE title, IP address and Port number. Name the storage device in the “Description” box. and leave LUT set to “None”
- Highlight the new device and click “Test” to verify configuration settings
- Click “Ok” to return to the DICOM Transfer window




Searching for, Selecting and Sending DICOM studies:
1. At the top of the MAXXvue software, search the date range of studies you’d like to transfer
2. Highlight studies within that date range you wish to transfer as DICOM format (selecting the top study, holding SHIFT and selecting the bottom study will select all studies within the two you selected – up to 50 studies may be added to the DICOM transfer list at a time, per MAXXvue)
3. Click DICOM Transfer on the left
4. Under the “Current Transfer Information” tab, ensure the new device you just added is the selected “Storage-SCP” device
5. Click “Transfer” on the bottom left of the DICOM Transfer window
6. You can verify that what you added is in the export queue by clicking the “Manager Queue” tab – you should see studies moving through that queue immediately
7. While that recent selection is exporting, you can change the search date range, select new studies, and add them to the queue following the same steps.

How do I add SmartPACS viewer to a computer?
Adding the Sound SmartPACS viewer to any computer is simple. All you need is an HTML 5 compatible web browser (Google Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera, or Safari).
Open your browser and use the address of your SmartPACS server/smartpacs. Below is an example using a SmartPACS IP address of 192.168.1.201

How do I export images to a thumbstick, CD, etc?
How to Export Studies from SmartPACS
You can choose to export a study or studies from your patient screen. For info on how to save a JPEG, click here
- Select study by checking box
- Choose Export, then Local
- Choose either DICOM or JPEG
- Check Include viewer
- Choose Add to Export Viewer
- Click on Local Queue (off to the right)
- You will see the completed (or ongoing) export file
- Choose the Download icon (looks like a floppy disc)
- It will copy the .zip file into the Downloads directory – name of patient.zip
- Move back a step to the Downloads directory, then find the .zip file and highlight it
- Right click on it, then choose Send To and browse to the flash drive you plugged in on the list below
How do I send DICOM images to another DICOM/Telemedicine Server?
You are easily able to send your images to another DICOM server within SmartPACS. This is useful if you are sending to a radiologist or telemedicine group. If you do not see the server you are trying to send to, please contact tech support at 800-819-5538
- Select study by checking box
- Choose Export, then Network
- Check Send selected studies (or use date selection criteria)
- Highlight the DICOM Destination listed below in the Send images to: box
- Choose OK
How do I save a JPEG image?
Sound SmartPACS allows you to easily save a JPEG image by taking a “snapshot” within the viewer.
With your viewing pane open, click the snapshot icon
Your images will download to a PNG file, usually to your Windows Download folder.
Google Chrome will also show the file in the bottom left of the browser screen.
Firefox will usually prompt you to either open or save the file. Chose save file and the location you want to save it.
What is the Calibration Tool All About?
The SmartPACS Calibration tool can be used to make accurate measures for one-off surgeries, such as TPLO, TTA, etc. You will need a object of a know size, like a calibration ball or stick that you can reference. The calibration must be made for each image, every time you need to measure. Sound offers a complete set of Orthopedic tools for advanced surgeries. Please let us know if you are interested.
This tool should not be used to measure masses, heart scores, etc.
My Images Are Not Transfering and I Cannot Pull Up The Software
The first place to start is to ensure that your SmartPACS is turned on. You will know that it is turned when the power but is illuminated blue.

How Do I Create and Send OFA Studies?

- Open a study in your SmartPACS viewer
- Ensure that your DICOM tags are set to on by selecting the Enable/Disable Overlays
button. When the DICOM Overlays are enabled, you will see text in the corners of the image.
- Select the Annototation Drop Down Menu and choose the Text Tool
.
- Enter your AKC number, Kennel Name, and any other info needed into a text box.
- You can adjust your placement by dragging the final text on the screen
- You can adjust your placement by dragging the final text on the screen
- When you have the image the way you want it, press the Screen Capture
button to create a file. This will be saved to your downloads folder.
- Open a study in your SmartPACS viewer
OFA info
